A * YUU YUU HAKUSHO * song fic

Kurama stood unmoving on a shore, watching the sun getting swallowed by the Makai ocean. Water like stained glass blinked at him, wondering what could possibly upset such a beautiful creature and still be alive. The redhead sighed.

" When have all this begun ? " There really wasn't an answer and still a part of him refused to aknowledge such a weakness … being half human wasn't enough ? You've had to go and fall in love with your best friend, and, you know, to have Hiei as a best friend is already something in itself !!!

His yohko self was really furious and that cleared a lot of things. Yes, he was certain, he loved Hiei. But that was the easiest thing of all. How could he tell that to him ? When he didn't know how it could have happened … confused, he headed home.

He wasn't in the mood for anything, so after supper he went upstairs to his room. He did his homeworks quite without knowing what he was doing and then he went to bed.

***

He was looking for shelter. He didn't know why lately he felt more lonely than ever. Maybe it was all that stupid fox's fault. " Hn ! "
He wasn't concerned, no way, but Kurama had acted strangely recently … so moody, so anti-social. He didn't give a damn if the fox was sleeping, Hiei wanted answers and he was going to have them this night.

Asleep. As I thought.
Hiei entered from the window into Kurama's room. He stood still watching the fox while his eyes adjusted to the darkness. He was mesmerized. His feet took him near the redhead of their own volition. He had always wondered how was the feeling of those silky tresses between his fingers … he snapped out of that trance the moment Kurama snuggled closer to him, rubbing his cheek on the palm of his hand.

He wanted to put space between them, letting his heart slow down. He went to the desk and put his cloak and scarf on the chair. He made a little air and something fell down from the table. He bent down to retrive it. It was a piece of paper … a poem ?
He went near the window and tried to read …

+ Maybe it's intuition
But some things you just don't question
Like in your eyes
I see my future in an istant

Hiei swallowed, a lump in his troat. What was that ?

" Hiei ? … What are you doing here, Is something wrong ? " Kurama yawned and rubbed his eyes. When he was able to focus, he noticed the piece of paper in Hiei's hands … from the expression on his friend's face he didn't have to ask what it was. And Hiei wasn't pleased … and that was an understatement. He tried to speak, to come up with a reasonable excuse, but Hiei cut him before he could utter a word.

" What's that ? Well ? One of your jokes ? You stupid fox, answer me !!! "
Kurama wanted to cry. His heart hurted like hell and all his hopes just died in that instant.

Seeing those tears rolling down Kurama's cheeks, made Hiei wince.
" Just tell me it's only one of your teasing things and we end this here … come on … " Hiei held back his breath …

" No, it's not a joke … " It was said in a whisper, but Hiei remembered how to breathe only after something else. " I love you, Hiei "

Why was he so lightheaded ? He needed to lean on the window sill to keep his balance.
" This is not what I asked, Kurama ! "

" No, it isn't, but it's the truth. Have you finished to read that ? "
He didn't want to, but somehow his eyes turned back to that piece of paper.

+ And there it goes
I think I've found my best friend
I know that it might sound more than a little crazy
But I believe

I knew I loved you before I met you
I think I dreamed you into life
I knew I loved you before I met you
I have been waiting all my life

" At the beginning I thought it was only friendship … that it was something special because you are my very first friend, now that I have a heart and a soul that feel … even too much …but then, during the Black Tournament, everything became confused . I thought it was only a matter of time and then everything would be fine again … " Kurama lay back on his bed, his eyes closed. It was too late to take back his words and he knew that there was so much at stake , their friendship, his life … but he wasn't able to keep his feelings for himself anymore.

Hiei didn't know what to do. In a blink of an eye all his world had turned upside down. All those little things that became the fixed points of his universe since his forced joining with the Urameshi Team had disappeared. Well, thinking about it, he had never admitted with himself that his relationship with Kurama - whatever it was - was something so important, or that stupid kitsune … is he so important ? Wait a minnit … what did I say ? But he was worried about him , that's why he came here, right ? Isn't this an answer ?
He sighed … why must he complicate my life like this ?
He turned his head . Kurama was curled on his side on the bed, arms wrapped around himself as if he was afraid to be hurt. Stupid fox, nh … He turned his attention again on the paper …

+ There's just no rhyme or reason
Only this sense of completion
And in your eyes
I see the missing pieces
I'm searching for
I think I've found my way home

I know that it might sound more than a little crazy …what an understatement, a little ? Hiei shook his head. It wasn't a little crazy, it was pure madness. Come on, try to be real, you are the Forbidden Child, a killer and a thief. He must be going blind …
" Hiei … "
But that voice, so desperate, so full of need … for him ?
A hand was stretched toward him. Like in a dream, he walked to the bed and took the hand.

Hiei took the piece of paper and read the end while surrounded by Kurama's arms.

+ I knew I loved you before I met you
I think I dreamed you into life
I knew I loved you before I met you
I have been waiting all my life

Maybe it was the truth, their truth. But now the dream was over and reality could begin. The last sentence made him smile …

A thousand angels dance around you
I am complete now that I've found you

He turned around, facing Kurama and fell asleep.
