"Kurama, I will expect your report tomorrow."
The redhead nodded his head solemnly.  Yomi stared at him for a long
time before he finally sighed.
"You may go."  The makai lord said reluctantly.
Kurama nodded silently again and closed the door to Yomi's office.
The youko went his slowly way out of the palace and relaxed wholly
when he was outside Gandara.  It was only then that the youko's tall
frame sagged with weariness, hands hooked idly inside the pockets of
his military garb.  Kurama brushed impatiently at his red hair.  His
emerald eyes twinkled at the sight that stood before him.  He was
near his territory!  The youko could not help himself any longer.  In
a blink of an eye, his crimson hair bled into silver, the slender,
willowy frame replaced by the much taller, more masculine physique of
his youko aspect.  He was Youko Kurama once again!  The youko
gleefully leaped from tree to tree, infusing his ki so that the
greenery reached out to welcome him.  Kurama chuckled and the flowers
bobbed their heads with mirth, happy to hear their master so
cheerful.  The youko finally stood to a standstill and cocked his
furry ears.  His nearest neighbor was very near.  In fact, he was
standing several feet away from Kurama!

We lead two different lives
Just like two lines that never cross
And here we are together
Standing closer than we are
But we're still standing here untouched
Too scared to make a move
We want so much to touch
And we can't wait forever
We know it's dangerous
For us to be together

"Hn."  Hiei snorted at the silver fox.  But the ruby eyes that
studied the youko were intense, hungry even.  Kurama sauntered slowly
toward the fire youkai and stood a foot away from him.
"Hiei."  Kurama spoke the name softly, a tingling sensation started
crawling from his toes up to the pit of his stomach.  The fox demon
sank down on the ground and regarded the youkai under his long silver
ashes.
"Did you have a busy day?"  He asked softly.
The fire demon nodded curtly.  His eyes riveted to the pale
smoothness of Kurama's neck and arms and legs.  He growled inwardly.
It was not good to have Kurama as a neighbor.  He was far too
tempting.  He moved closer until Kurama's fresh breath was fanning
his face.  A insistent drumming in his chest drowned out the sounds
from the makai woods.  The little youkai leaned closer to hear what
the fox was saying, lips inches apart from that sensuous mouth.
"Hn. You were saying?"  Hiei rasped.  His small hands clutched his
katana tightly.  Kurama moved nearer, his cheeks brushed across
Hiei's stiff shoulder blades.  The youko murmured softly in Hiei's
ear.
"How long are we gonna play this game, Hiei?"  Kurama asked quietly.
The fire demon turned startled ruby eyes to the now serious face.
"You know this can't go on forever."  Kurama murmured quietly.
Hiei swallowed the lump in his throat.  Hie eyes were sad ad
regretful as he stared down at the pale gorgeous creature before him.
"You know we can't.  It is forbidden."  He began just as softly.  He
watched quietly as Kurama took out several seeds from his hair.  He
knew what those plant bones were for.  They were to safeguard the
dangerous conversation they were having, muffle their voices into
mere silence.  Hiei nodded to the fox.  He relaxed his stance.
Kurama patted the ground at his side.  Hiei sat obediently, but from
across the youko.  Kurama narrowed his eyes at him.
"Ad how was your day?"  Hiei asked conversationally.
"Monotonous.  Yomi couldn't dispel the boredom of the job he gave me,
no matter how may times he had me on my feet."
"Hn."  The fire demon gave a crooked grin, but then his eyes mirrored
a deep worry.  He knew why Yomi kept Kurama to his side.  The makai
lord wanted the fox to be his lover.  But Kurama had evaded his
clutches time and time again.  He was afraid Kurama would run out of
excuses and space and would finally succumb to Yomi willingly.  He
bent down his spiky head, greatly pained by the thought.  His heart
started to drum wildly when a slender finger captured his chin in a
gentle caress.  He gazed back into the beautiful golden eyes.
"Why are you so sad, Hiei?"  Kurama asked with a smile that faltered
halfway.
"How long are we gonna keep this up, kitsune?"  He asked harshly.
Kurama paled even more.  He gazed for a long time at Hiei and then
stood up.
"Goodnight, Hiei."
The graceful youko walked away slowly, head bent dejectedly.
"Goodnight, Kurama."

How do we ever keep this secret
How do we keep it in the dark
And if we dare to taste our weakness
How could we tear ourselves apart
Why do we keep this love together
Didn't we know right from the start
That we would have to keep this secret
Or forever stay apart

The next day was even more arduous for Kurama.  Yomi had snarled at
him for the very first time.  In the end, Yomi grabbed him and pushed
him inside his office.
"When are you gonna give up this charade, Kurama?"  Yomi demanded.
"Why can't you understand that to be free, all you have to do is to
be mine."  The makai lord snarled angrily.
The redhead calmly shook off Yomi's gripping hands ad answered coolly.
"I don't understand you, Yomi."
For an answer, Yomi took the youko into his arms.
"Can't understand or won't understand?"  Yomi said harshly, gazing
intensely at the youko's sensuous mouth
"Someone is coming!"  Kurama hissed softly and Yomi pushed Kurama
abruptly away from him.
Kurama rearranged his clothes and schooled his features to greet
Yomi's visitor.  And gazed straight into Hiei's ruby eyes.  For a
brief moment, the fire youkai and the youko exchanged a meaningful
glance before Kurama unnecessarily announced Hiei's coming.
"Yomi, Mukuro's right hand is here to see you."
Yomi nodded a dismissal to Kurama and looked in Hiei's direction.
"What have you got there?"
"A message from Mukuro."  Hiei said in his low voice.  He watched
Kurama leave the room in his peripheral vision.

-----------------------------

Hiei walked swiftly amid the pouring makai rain.  He could see his
have not very far now.  His and Kurama's territories linked close
together, youkai hearts linked even closer.  He could fathom the
silver fox's shimmering form waiting for him.
"Baka!"  Hiei snarled under his breath.

I watch you coming to me
Walking in the pouring rain
I can't help looking at you
Wishing I could stay away
So many times I've tried in vain
To close my eyes and pray it goes away
But I can't stop myself from feeling
To let you go would be too much
For me to take

Kurama gazed desperately at the small figure coming so swiftly toward
him.  Inari.  He couldn't stop the tide of his feelings any longer.
He wanted Hiei and him only.  He surprised the fire youkai by holding
out his arms and grabbing the small compact body i his warm, wet
embrace.  He could die here in his arms and he would be content.  The
two demons fell down o the grassy, wet clearing and Kurama nimbly
pushed the youkai down the ground.
"Kurama, what do you think you're doing?"   Hie shouted at him above
the deafening heavy downpour.  He watched with mingled awe and
anticipation as the greenery grew in gigantic proportions, shrouding
the entire clearing from unwanted observers.  The youko swooped down
on the fire youkai, tasting the fire
on the youkai's lips, completely oblivious to the incessant rain
falling down his drenched back.  The fox demon raised his body
slightly to accommodate the straightening youkai beneath him.

I can't help thinking
When I look into your eyes
How much I needed you
It's so hard to hide

"Ku-Kurama...."
"Hiei."  The silver youko bent down again and kissed the fire demon
hungrily on the mouth.  He watched the confusion on the fire youkai's
face and the youko pressed his forehead against Hiei's warm jagan.
"I can't hold on for much longer, Hiei.  I need you.  I'd die for
you, please understand."  He whispered coaxingly, slender hands
wandering to the compact torso where Hiei's heart throbbed wildly.
Kurama pressed his palm on the pulsing skin, licking his lips.  Hiei
shivered at the look of utter sensuality on the golden orbs.  He
understood Kurama.  He grabbed a fistful of wet silver hair and
kissed Kurama so deeply until they both couldn't breathe anymore.
"H-Hiei?"  Kurama's tone was unbelieving, his golden eyes luminous
with unshed tears.
"If you die, I'd die with you."  Hiei promised with very serious
smoldering ruby eyes.  The youko nodded and allowed Hiei to take off
the soak gauzy garb off his pale, smooth body.  Then the two would-be-
lovers lay back on the ground, eyes locked together, memorizing that
moment to treasure within their souls.
"Ai shiteru."  Kurama whispered deeply and Hiei smiled at him very
sweetly for the very first time in his whole youkai life.  And then
their mouths touched.
